/  Emotions   /  Are you a traumatic person?

Almost all of us are traumatic. A traumatic person is a person who has experienced mental trauma. Mental trauma is an emotionally significant event associated with negative experiences. Threats to life, loss of a loved one, family troubles, resentment, unrequited love, and other negative experiences can become traumatic events for a person and cause mental trauma.

The extent of the trauma I can determine by the degree to which the client is silent about the trauma. By blocking the natural experience of feelings, the traumatic leaves the script unfinished.

Diseases that come from trauma

Traumatics suffer from constant ailments and diseases. They make an unconscious deal with the body: “Let you get sick, and I will not feel intolerable feelings.” By choosing such an “exchange”, traumatics get headaches, gastrointestinal disorders, vascular problems, and heart attacks.

Receiving relief from mental anguish, the traumatic person also receives alexithymia – the inability to express feelings in words. Stereotypes and limitations appear, which protects from painful feelings and thoughts.

Childhood trauma

A person who has experienced a traumatic event as a child experiences trauma all the time. They have an internal fixation in this state until they experience their trauma and receive a release. However, the paradox is that the traumatic person is not able to do this because of too strong mental pain. They kind of freeze emotionally.

Remember the fairy tale “Snow Queen“. When friendly, benevolent Kai got a shard of ice in his heart, and he became arrogant, insensitive, and “cold”, narcissism appeared. Kai puts pieces of ice into figures, that is, he is involved in the activity, at first glance he is adequate, normal, but the emotional modality is disabled. Kai’s world is the world of the traumatic, where reality does not attract his attention, but if perceived, then in fragments.

External pain

Traumatics often “run-up”. For them, to experience pain means to feel alive. Therefore, what a traumatic person does, they create situations of risk in their lives, hurts themselves not consciously. They seem to be looking for where they will be hurt in order to feel alive at this moment. Such people can choose extreme sports, as it were, a legalized attempt on their lives. If this is not a sport, then it can be anything or anyone, who or what hurts them both physically and mentally.

Traumatics are not able to respond emotionally, the experience of pleasure and curiosity disappears from life. The trauma survivor feels limited in this world. The world is not safe for him. How can the injury be cured?

Treatment

If a traumatic person was able to face pain and despair, feel powerlessness, insignificance, experience the fullness of shame or guilt, the experience would acquire its meaning and cease to return in flashes of the experience and nightmares. Therefore, this requires work with a psychologist.

We relive the trauma together, touch the client’s feelings and make them safe, and discuss those feelings in a non-defensive, non-judgmental, and engaging manner. We release affect and complete the script safely.

Trauma cannot be healed on your own Contact with another person must be present. Since the trauma arose not from the event, but from the inability to place the effect with someone. It is important to cry for someone, not for yourself.
